This was a very fun and creative project where I was asked by my client to design a kitchen that doubled up as a social area in their new extension that was being built. My client is very creative themselves and wanted something that had a wow factor and really showed who they are and what their lifestyle is like. The brief was to design and industrial and modern style kitchen that was streamlines, looked expensive and had copper accents.
This kitchen was to go in a family home, so it was important that it was functional as a family space where their children can hang out and do their homework, but also be a space where the family can entertain.
The key elements my client wanted was:
- An island with a seating area that was different from the usual breakfast bar looks
- Bank of towers with eye-level ovens
- Symmetry
- Mostly drawer lines
For the island, I designed it to be both a cooking area and entertaining area. We worked with the modern style and look of Wren's Milano range and clean lines to create a modular look. I provided the solid timber worktop to be dropped down slightly from the copper slate worktops on the island and used as a dining table. My clients loved this idea of having the island and dining table slotted together to become one feature and focus centre of the room. They sourced the black metal dining table legs themselves.
On either side of the tower unit run it is bookended with open shelving units in the copper slate worktop, which allowed for the slate worktop along the back wall and sink run to flow in to the shelves and join the two walls together. I absolutely love how this design came to life and my clients are really pleased with the end result.
